Varsity Scouting was officially adopted by the BSA (Boy Scouts of America) in 1984. This was also the first year that the finalized version - the second edition - of the Varsity Scout Handbook was published. The prior edition - the first edition, in several printings from 1978 to 1980 - was first experimental and then in the testing stage. Varsity Scout handbooks were dropped in 1989, and scouts used the Boy Scout Handbook instead. - from Amzon
